Professor Tih Pius Muffih, Director of Health Services of the Cameroon Baptist Convention, CBC, has warned staff that the number of COVID-19 infections within the structure is at an all-time high.

On Wednesday, February 24, 2021, he addressed a ‘distress’ call to all heads of institutions within the CBC Health Services with the subject, “COVID-19 is back”.

“I wish to warn all of us that COVID-19 has come back very aggressively. More staff members have been infected in the last two weeks than were infected in the period March to December 2020. This is not good news to us, ”Prof. Tih said.

According to a copy of the letter obtained by Cameroon-Info.Net, the Director of Health Services has re-instituted decentralized devotions in large facilities.

He has also asked his collaborators to intensify barrier methods of preventing COVID-19 including wearing facemasks, washing hands, social / physical distancing, and frequent use of sanitizers.

“Test all patients for COVID-19 who are admitted in the wards,” Prof. Tih ordered. “Test all staff who are not well, whether admitted or not.”

The Director of Health Services of the Cameroon Baptist Convention encourages all the facilities to educate the public through the outpatient department on the COVID-19 preventive measures.

Cameroon-Info.Net recalls that a fortnight ago, Governor Lele Lafrique Tchoffo Deben Adolphe said “the North West Region is witnessing an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases”.

“This is evidence of the existence of a second wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic in the Region,” the Governor said in a statement.

His words: “Worse of all, during the last 10 days, the Region recorded 116 positive cases of COVID-19 with 5 COVID-19 related deaths. The cumulative statistics for COVID-19 in the North West Region are as follows: 1,189 Persons tested positive, with 935 recoveries, 173 active cases on treatment, and unfortunately 81 deaths (with 40 occurring in Health Facilities and 41 in communities). ”

Governor Lele said Mezam, Boyo, Donga Mantung, and Ngoketunjia Divisions have the most COVID-19 cases. “The City of Bamenda still constitutes the epicenter of the pandemic with the highest number of cases reported,” he said.

The Governor regretted that many people are no longer respecting the COVID-19 barrier measures prescribed by the Government of Cameroon and the World Health Organization.

“I am therefore calling on the stakeholders in the North West Region especially media professionals and bloggers to step up sensitization of the population on the strict respect of barrier measures against COVID-19, such as the systematic wearing of facemasks when leaving the house, handwashing with soap and running water, maintenance of social distancing at all times, ”Governor Lele said. “These measures should also be strictly respected in all primary and secondary schools, churches and markets.”

The Governor says the entire population should closely collaborate with the health authorities, to give the Mass Campaign for COVID-19 testing, which is planned for the next three months in all health facilities, schools, and communities, a resounding success.

Last week, Public Health Minister Manaouda Malachie said, “As we can see, the situation is becoming worrying again. We must scrupulously respect the 13 measures laid out by the Head of State, which have not of course been repealed. Let’s only go out when necessary and systematically wear our masks. ”

Cameroon recorded its first Coronavirus cases in March 2020. Since then, 33,749 positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported. Of this number, 523 have died while 31,362 have recovered.
